Improve productivity by reducing travel time

01 June 2026

EXCESSIVE WALKING in warehouses, shop floors or distribution centres is a major source of inefficiency. In more manual operations, some pickers and operators can walk up to 12 miles a day, so anything than can be done to reduce travel distance over shifts will have a positive impact on your productivity.

Typically, desktop label printers are stationery and need a fixed power connection to produce labels for shipping, receiving, track and trace etc. But now, TSC Auto ID has developed a battery station for its TH DH Series desktop printers that enables them to print on the spot, free from power cords. The innovative combination simplifies integration, reducing the need for additional power supply setup or custom configurations.

Pairing the desktop devices with a battery station unlocks new application possibilities across multiple industries, not just logistics and manufacturing. Without being restricted to working near power outlets, business users gain greater flexibility in their operations and more streamlined workflows.

In warehouses, the battery station can be sited on printing carts, allowing operators to move freely while fulfilling orders on the spot. This reduces the time workers might have needed to walk to printing stations to obtain labels, thereby enhancing efficiency.

In healthcare settings, medical carts equipped with battery-powered desktop printers enable efficient specimen and medication labelling and better bedside care. Liberating desktops from fixed locations also benefits environments such as deli counters or packaging stations, where immediate labelling is required.

A movable desktop printer ensures seamless operations, even in areas with limited power access.

How does it operate?

TSC’s new battery station has been designed for ease of use and simple maintenance, ensuring it does not create a further burden during operations. It is compatible with all printers in the highly versatile TH DH Series and features a detachable design, allowing users to swap printers as needed. The battery station connects easily to the desktop printer via a power cord and a data cable, reducing setup time.

In terms of power, the high-capacity 4,000mAh (86Wh) battery prints up to 40,000" of media on a single charge. This eliminates the sort of frequent charging that can interrupt workflows. Moreover, the smart battery is equipped with a battery management system (BMS) for real-time status monitoring, either directly through the printer or remotely via TSC Console and TSC Console Web.

The battery station itself offers flexible charging options depending on the work environment. Operators can push the print cart to a power outlet after a shift and charge the entire station without removing any components. Alternatively, they can quickly swap out depleted batteries for fully charged ones. Either way, it can be easily charged with a standard printer power supply.

The added mobility, plus the capability to accommodate larger outside (OD) media, gives TH DH Series desktop printers the flexibility that users need to enhance operational efficiency. Pairing the devices with the battery station eliminates unnecessary trips back and forth to a fixed printing station and increases productivity.

TH DH Series 2" and 4" desktop barcode printers are very versatile and flexible. They can print on various media types including thick, tiny, and long labels, enabling businesses to tackle even more diverse label printing challenges.

If you need your operators to work ‘untethered’ then contact TSC to learn more about the new battery station that puts desktop printers right where they’re needed.
