Working together for a safer Scotland

18 July 2018

Health & Safety Scotland is a free-to-attend b2b exhibition dedicated to Scotland’s safety industry. The event returns to the SEC, Glasgow on the 12th and 13th September 2018.

Under the theme ‘Working together for a safer Scotland’, Health & Safety Scotland provides a wealth of networking and educational opportunities to anyone responsible for running a safe and efficient workplace. The event attracts thousands of safety and business professionals. Previous visitors have included safety teams across Scottish business, including professionals from Glasgow Airport, Royal Bank of Scotland, Sodexo Justice Services, The Weir Group, Scottish Power, Scotbeef, Taggarts Motor Group and many more.

Supported by the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), the UK’s leading trade body within the safety industry, Health & Safety Scotland offers a platform for safety practitioners to access more than 200 of the world’s leading safety, fire safety and building management suppliers and manufacturers under one roof and the organisers have confirmed 3M, Berendsen UK, Ejendals, Blackline Safety and Evac+Chair International to be just some of brands exhibiting.

Following positive visitor feedback, the event will once again feature two theatres running a packed programme of CPD-accredited professional seminar content. The first, a keynote theatre with sessions curated by the British Safety Council, will comprise four stand-out presentations each day from some of the UK’s top safety practitioners and industry specialists.

One of the most popular sessions in the programme, the Scottish Case Law Update will be presented by Malcolm Gunnyeon, partner at Dentons LLP. His presentation will review recent health and safety prosecutions and consider how these might affect key legal principles in application of regulations and definition of sentencing guidelines.

A view from the Regulator – Blue Tape is the title of a session presented by Jeremey Bevan, policy manager, HSE. He will provide an update on the HSE's work to better understand the impact of non-regulatory requirements and the burdens that these place on businesses. Attendees will hear about the research so far, and  plans to address the issues identified.

This session offers the opportunity to interact with the HSE and understand its priorities and focus areas to inform the health and safety management strategy in your business.

Keith Scott, director of residents safety, Camden Council, will present a session called Residents Safety – Lessons from Grenfell. Following the horrific fire at Grenfell tower in 2017 Camden Council has decided to make a step change in its approach to safety of residents. Its new director of residents safety will discuss the work the council is doing and how it is engaging with other local authorities and housing authorities to drive a national conversation about this important subject.

This session will provide insight into findings of key reviews launched following the Grenfell fire and consider what safety practitioners can do to help drive a national conversation about the safety of residents in multi-occupied buildings.

Safety Dialogue theatre

The show will also see the return of the Safety Dialogue theatre, sponsored by 3M, a popular feature with attendees at its first appearance at the 2017 event. Sessions comprise panel-led discussions from of experts and experienced end-users as they debate technical issues in the safety industry today, including Working at Height, Managing Noise and Vibration, Training and Competence, Using RPE, and Working in Confined Spaces.
