Wastewater treatment solution provider, KEE Process has specified Flender gear units from Siemens Drive Technologies for a number of years, due to their reliability, low maintenance requirements, high torque and ongoing low power demands.

One of KEE's latest UK projects was the installation of rotating biological contactors (RBCs), modular treatment plants for treatment of medium scale capacity.

The 4.5m units incorporate Flender FZG gear units (size H3DH11), combined with Motox units (size KAF108K4-1LA9) and highefficiency Siemens eff1 motors (size 113-4KA). This combination drive design was selected to achieve high ratios for low-speed operation - around 1rpm output speed - with 4kW power and 63,500Nm gearbox rating.

KEE Process contracts engineer, Alastair McInnes said the units were virtually silent in operation, due to being driven by direct coupled geared motors."We cannot fault these gear units and geared motors; their performance and reliability is very impressive. We also obtain good after-sales service support from Siemens, which is an important part of our contracts for customers all over the world."
