A new intelligent safety system from
Kawasaki Robotics is designed to
provide operators with less restrictive
and safer access to robot systems.
Cubic-S is a motion monitoring safety unit which has been awarded TüV Certification to EN ISO 13848-1 performance level d/category 3. It uses dual CPUs that are independent from the robot's control CPU to monitor speed and position. Eight individual functions allow safety zones to be easily programmed without the need for zone limit switches.
The monitoring functions of Cubic-S, used with external hardware such as pressure mats or light guards, allow HMIs to be established.
Typically this could allow human intervention for inspection of a component while remaining gripped by the robot still under power.
By restricting the robot's work space to its programmed operational area, Cubic-S saves space on the factory floor.
Additional in-cell safety equipment can also be reduced as Cubic-S functionality integrates into robot programmes to allow locations of peripheral equipment and operation to be considered.
