Air boost for spring maker

26 January 2016

Spring manufacturer Hanson Springs has expanded the specialist spring powder coating facility at its Rochdale production centre and called on Thorite to provide increased compressed air capacity.

As well as providing more compressed air overall, Thorite was asked to ensure that its selected pneumatic equipment would also remove any trace of water from the system, to satisfy the nature of the powder coating process's requirement for completely dry air.

Thorite's technical application team proposed the installation of an additional HPC ASD 60 compressor to provide a reliable and energy-efficient increased air supply, while a pair of Parker Hiross refrigerant dryers, also developed to provide high levels of energy efficiency, were proposed to remove any traces of moisture. A receiver and additional modern, highly efficient smooth bore aluminium pipework completed the solution.

The equipment has been welcomed by Dan Pilling, Hanson Springs' project manager. He says: "The equipment performs very well and really suits our needs. We manufacture springs which are trusted by the biggest names in the flow control, oil & sas, nuclear, rail and power generation industries in a wide range of exotic steels and alloys. Most of our powder coated springs are used by these industries in some form of safety valves, so there can be no compromise on quality."
