Grinder reduces HAVS risk

10 October 2016

Master Abrasives has introduced the new ZIPP Air Tools micro die grinder range to the UK. Also known as pencil grinders, they are reported to have extremely low vibration results in real use test conditions, offering an affordable solution to companies trying to reduce the risk of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) in the workplace.

The grinders have a high speed air motor and a twist throttle offering variable speed control up to 60,000RPM. An alloy steel cylinder gives durability and high grade ball bearings provide a smooth low vibration operation.

Master Tool Services has carried out structured ‘real use’ Hand Arm Vibration [HAV] tests on the new ZIPP pencil grinder model ZPD212 with a range of MASTER mounted Points and MASTER carbide burrs. The results showed that the ZIPP tool’s vibration levels were considerably lower than those of two other well-known brand equivalents used for comparison in the tests.

Andy Wright, national sales manager, says: “The highest vibration magnitude result came from testing the tools with the carbide burr D040403. Even then, we were impressed to see a low vibration magnitude of 0.93 m/s2 for the ZIPP pencil grinder, whereas the other makes of pencil grinder being tested came out at 2.28m/s2 and 1.17m/s2.

"The test results showed that the ZIPP pencil grinder had a lower vibration magnitude than the other two tools and this just proves that as well as getting value for money customers can also benefit from low HAV levels when using the quality ZIPP tool range."
