Band saws on show
19 July 2017
Band saw specialist, Starrett, will be exhibiting at EMO Hannover 2017 from September 18 to 23 Hall 15, Stand C08). The company will be showcasing Starrett’s range of band saw machines, as well as demonstrating a variety of saw blades that are tailor-made for various metal cutting applications.

Organised by the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW), the exhibition is highly regarded as a reliable platform to launch new innovations and network with potential customers and distributors.
Starrett will be demonstrating machines ranging from the portable S1005 band saw, a battery-operated machine with a blade speed of 170m/min that weighs just 4kg, to the S4230, a 475kg semi-automatic, horizontal band saw, that features a dynamometric saw tension indicator; blade speed, which can range from 20 to 85m/min, is controlled by a variable frequency drive.
“We have a band saw machine that is suited for pretty much any metal cutting application you can think of,” said John Cove, marketing manager of Starrett. “It’s easy to view all band saws as being alike, but it’s a dangerous trap to fall into.
“Having a machine that isn’t suited to your needs can impact efficiency, accuracy and even increase your energy bills. Similarly, having the right machine but the wrong blade can be just as detrimental to your operation. At EMO Hannover we’ll be demonstrating our range of band saw blades and advising visitors to our stand about how to select the best one for their needs.
“For instance, our Bi-Metal blades, such as PRIMALLOY, have a specialised high-speed edge with exclusive tooth geometry. In addition, the range has extended life treatment (EXT) functionality to ensure maximum fatigue life, so they are ideal for high speed steel, stainless steel and titanium alloy cutting applications. On the other hand, there is our Carbide range, which includes the ADVANZ MC5 AND MC7, that has carbide-tipped teeth, that are perfect for delivering precise cuts with excellent finish when cutting ferrous metals.”
