New cutting robot concept
06 May 2021
AUTOMATING PROCESSES is the way forward in the field of aluminum processing. IMA Schelling offers its new saw-robot combination for companies cutting plates weighing up to 500kg. It adds highly efficient material handling to the proven IMA Schelling cutting technologies.

With the saw-robot combination, the IMA Schelling Precision business unit is introducing a forward-looking, efficient automation solution. It complements the manufacturer's high-performance aluminum saws. If a new processing plant is planned, the integration of the robot concept guarantees a significant increase in performance. Customers optimize material handling from saw feeding to stacking of finished parts. The saw-robot combination is particularly suitable for cutting aluminum half-size and remnant plates, handling weights of up to 500kg.
The robot takes over a whole range of tasks and brings the utilization of the saw to a new, previously unattained level: After feeding into the robotic cell, it lifts the material to the saw and takes over the handling of the plates during the cutting process. The robot stacks finished parts onto programmed positions, as well as rest pieces for later reuse. The robot sorts cutting waste according to the different alloys and disposes of them in separate containers.
The automated processes increase efficiency and shorten processing times. Time- and energy-consuming processes – lifting, turning, stacking – are carried out by the robot in fast work cycles, around the clock if necessary. The robot – saw combination is happy to continue to work in total darkness to ensure your productions keeps going. This reduces the need for personnel at the cutting cell. For cuts that can be produced more efficiently by manual labor, the new robot colleague naturally leaves the saw to your employees. On request, the saw-robot combination can be customized with additional functions, such as labelling finished parts and identifying grain direction.
