Trane debuts new range of modular air-cooled chillers
05 June 2026
TRANE IS expanding its portfolio of high-performance, low global warming potential (GWP) cooling solutions for commercial buildings and manufacturing facilities, with the introduction of FLEX N, new range of modular full-inverter scroll air-cooled chillers.

The new units use non-ozone-depleting, ultra-low GWP R290 refrigerant and deliver high performance in a compact footprint across a broad range of applications, from comfort to demanding process cooling environments.
"With FLEX N, building and process owners gain a practical route to lower-carbon operations without compromising performance, flexibility or reliability — all within a single product platform," said Erik Van Oossanen, product management leader at Trane. "This new range of cooling solutions for commercial buildings and manufacturing facilities helps customers reduce energy use, lower operating costs, and cut emissions - without compromising performance. Built on Trane’s engineering expertise and strengthened by capabilities from across Trane Technologies, including MTA’s specialist process cooling knowledge, these solutions deliver the sustainability, performance, and business value customers need."
FLEX N delivers strong seasonal efficiency in both comfort and process cooling applications where performance, footprint and adaptability are critical. In comfort cooling, the range achieves best-in-class seasonal efficiency, with an average Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 5.4. In process cooling, an average Energy Performance Ratio - High Temperature (SEPR HT) of 5.9 supports energy efficient operations across the most demanding industrial applications. Its extended operating map further enhances application flexibility, enabling FLEX N to provide chilled water between 25°and -12°C while maintaining dependable year-round performance across varied cooling demands.
The modular design of the FLEX N simplifies installation while supporting high-capacity system layouts withing a compact footprint. Up to six units can be installed side by side with minimal clearance, allowing total cooling capacity to scale up to 750 kW. Quick hydraulic connections and intuitive group control further streamline installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
FLEX N is available in nominal cooling capacities from 64 to 125 kW and with four acoustic versions. The units can be configured with integrated hydraulic modules and a range of options, including medium- and high-pressure pumps, bypass kit, protection panels, grilles, and metal mesh coil filters.
To ensure compliant side-by-side operation and reinforce reliability in demanding environments, FLEX N incorporates an integrated safety package including an ATEX leak-management system, shared interlock shutdown, and an optional high-efficiency gas/water separator.
FLEX N integrates with building automation systems through the Trane Symbio 800 controller, an application-specific, field-programmable platform supporting industry-standard protocols including BACnet IP and Modbus TCP. This enables enhanced control, monitoring, and connectivity, while supporting future-ready digital services and broader building management strategies.
Customers also benefit from Trane’s extensive service network, with access to preventative maintenance, rapid-response technical support, and lifecycle optimisation services across a broad range of applications.
