Water in an oil system can lead to corrosion, ineffective lubrication, friction and, eventually, serious damage, says ifm electronic, a company that has recently added a new diagnostic tool in the form of a solid-state oil condition monitor.

The new LDH monitor will detect water contamination and indicate the relative percentage of moisture content via an analogue output. This triggers an external alarm if the water content gets too high. It also provides data for trending. The device will measure oil temperature in parallel with water content and signal this on a second 4 to 20mA output.
