Cromax 280X, a low-carbon, chromed steel bar from Ovako enables the design of lighter, cost effective hydraulic and pneumatic components. The company says comprehensive control of the manufacturing process, from steel melting to finished bar, has enabled it to achieve yield and tensile strengths that are up to 20% higher than normal, while retaining the excellent machinability and weldability of micro-alloyed, 20MnV6 steel grade.

Ovako says these properties make it possible for engineers to downsize critical fluid power components, such as piston rods, without loss of load-bearing capacity and without sacrificing robustness. Bars can be supplied in more than 50 metric and imperial diameters.
