Measuring made easy
01 April 2015
The new Kistler LabAmp Type 5165A is an amplifier designed specifically to combine flexibility with usability for the measurement of dynamic signals.

Compatible with piezoelectric, Piezotron (IEPE) and voltage output sensors, the input signals can be routed to a choice of either 24-bit digitised data via Ethernet or analogue outputs.
The new measuring amplifier is said to provide exceptional flexibility for dynamic measurements with universal sensor inputs, integrated data acquisition and an intuitive user interface to allow quick results and a lean measurement setup.
LabAmp has been designed for use in research, development and laboratory applications where dynamic signals need to be measured precisely and with high signal quality. Typical applications include acceleration and vibration measurements, pulsating pressure applications and force measurements of fast machining processes.
The frequencies of the highpass, low-pass and notch filters can be directly entered as numeric values in Hertz and virtual channels allow mathematical calculations in real-time. The input signals and the virtual channels can be flexibly routed to the analogue outputs.
Ethernet communication with the one or four-channel amplifier permits user-friendly operation in a conventional web browser – the simplest method for rapid configuration of the Kistler LabAmp. The standard software interface to the widely used LabVIEW graphics development tool simplifies the integration of the amplifier directly with an existing application to process the flow of data.
Users who prefer to use the analog ±10V output signals, will appreciate the fully flexible 2-point scaling capability.
The new amplifier's wide charge and frequency range, 24 bits digitisation and extensive filter options make it a versatile partner for laboratory work. Processing measurements using piezoelectric sensor charge signals is said to be easier than ever before. In addition, Kistler says the amplifier practically configures itself when connected to Piezotron sensors (IEPE) with integrated TEDS.
The Kistler LabAmp Type 5165A is not only an outstanding low-noise charge amplifier for dynamic signals but also a powerful data acquisition device delivering the digitized measurement values directly to a host computer for further analysis. It is configured and operated in a web-interface, conveniently accessible by a standard web-browser.
