Appointments, plenary plans and membership news
18 May 2015
It's a busy time at BCAS (British Compressed Air Society) with the appointment of key personnel and the 2015 Pneurop plenary to organise. Chris Dee, executive director, explains more
A number of new appointments have been made at BCAS recently, with Dean Abbott joining as technical officer designate, and James Maziak, managing director of Maziak Compressor Services, becoming vice president.
Dean will take over from Greg Bordiak, who is retiring at the end of 2015 after more than 25 years in the role. He will work alongside Greg throughout the rest of 2015, enabling him to experience the society’s technical committees, its work with European bodies and the requirements of BCAS members at first hand.
Dean brings with him a wealth of engineering experience, with his most recent role lasting seven years as an aviation surveyor. Before this he enjoyed 25 years’ service in the Royal Air Force, leaving as a chief technician, and progressing to a senior Civil Service position in the Training Aircraft Integrated Project team.
This experience provides him with the necessary skills to be accomplished in his new position. He is also an adaptable, resourceful and hard working engineer with an eye for detail and accuracy, which makes him a perfect fit for BCAS.
Vice President
James Maziak will provide support to current BCAS President, Andy Jones, before he takes up the reins in November 2016.
Commenting on his appointment as Vice President, James Maziak said: "I’m clearly very honoured to be appointed BCAS vice president, particularly as I’m only the second person from the society’s distributor member network to take up the role.
"I’ll be supporting Andy Jones in promoting BCAS as an industry-wide sign of quality, and its members as the number one choice for compressed air sales and support.
"As part of my new role I aim to open up a two-way dialogue with members in order to create a forum where best practice can be used as a driver to improve the quality of existing and future BCAS members.”
James has been an active member of BCAS for almost 15 years and joined the board in 2011. Since then he has acted as the spokesman for compressed air distributors.
He has been instrumental in representing the role of BCAS to our distribution network, helping to establish a distributor subcommittee and providing the opportunity for industry professionals of all levels to meet and develop best practice standards.
2015 Pneurop Plenary
BCAS is hosting the 2015 Pneurop Plenary, an important annual event for the compressed air, gas and vacuum industry, which will be held from 25th to 27th June in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Members of Pneurop are national associations, representing more than 200 manufacturers in eight EU member states, in Switzerland and in Turkey. The European market turnover for the business represented exceeds €20 billion.
Pneurop speaks on behalf of its members in European and international forums regarding the harmonisation of technical, normative and legislative developments in the field of compressors, vacuum pumps, pneumatic tools and allied equipment.
The Plenary offers the opportunity to attend meetings and workshops as well as to network in a relaxed environment and allows delegates to maximise their time by making new business relationships with industry experts and fellow peers.
BCAS members are welcome to attend the Plenary’s social events, which include a formal dinner held in the Great Hall at Warwick Castle.
