Spiral solutions
06 August 2015
The UK branch of one of the world’s largest grocery retailers is investing strongly in its home shopping services. In total, five new greenfield central distribution warehouses will become operational to keep up with the fast-growing trend in home delivery.

Order totes will move around the centres, from picking to dispatch and back, effectively utilizing most of all 3 dimensions and not wasting any space. Although greenfield sites can be laid out freely, spiral conveyors come in very useful. Apart from space savings, they eliminate walkways, unnecessary conveyor tracks, and improve access throughout the process.
Each site will be enhanced by eight SpiralVeyors. The SV series will be fitted with a 400mm wide belt for the more general descending purposes, whilst the SVo series is a very cost effective solution that makes use of a new AmbaFlex patent-pending technology.
The newly developed belt does not have two outer edges, but provides supports over the complete product length. For rigid items with regular sizes, such as shipping containers, it’s a solution that offers stable contact and a high level of grip. AmbaFlex says items can be elevated at much higher inclines, saving elevation time and costs.
