Stepping down

Engineers Ireland has confirmed it will shortly commence a recruitment process for a new Director General to replace John Power, Chartered Engineer who will be stepping down in the coming months after eight years in charge of the professional body.

Commenting, current President of Engineers Ireland Regina Moran, Chartered Engineer, paid tribute to John Power: "On behalf of all our members, I would like to thank John for his enormous contribution to the engineering profession in Ireland over the past eight years. He played a key role in raising the profile of the profession and delivering significant change. He successfully steered the organisation through very challenging times and his stewardship has positioned us to capitalise on the opportunities ahead as well as enhancing the services for our members.”
Ms Moran said the organisation would begin recruiting for a successor in the coming weeks. "Engineers Ireland is one of the leading professional membership organisations in Ireland. We will continue to play a key role in advising Government on all matters engineering and infrastructure as well as supporting our members. It is an exciting time for the country and I’ve no doubt that this dynamic role will attract interest from many talented and competent individuals.”
Power said he had no immediate plans for the future and thanked his staff and the volunteer members of Engineers Ireland who served with him during his tenure; "None of the achievements of the last eight years could have been secured without the advice, support and commitment of the staff at our headquarters in 22 Clyde Road and the wonderful group of volunteer members who worked alongside me. I had the privilege of working with some of Ireland’s most successful engineers during my time and was lucky to benefit from their many years of experience and expertise. To them, I say thank you.”
