Pumps play their part at St Andrews
06 May 2015
More than 230,000 rounds of golf are played each year on the various courses that make up St Andrews. Maintaining the high profile facility is the role of St Andrew Links Trust. When a pump station became increasingly problematic, the decision was made to replace it.

Grundfos Pumps worked in partnership with MJ Abbott to develop a new pump station, the role of which would be to provide pressurised irrigation water to five of the most high profile courses. The station needed to deliver 575m3/h at 8.5 bar to ensure it could meet peak demand.
Grundfos 5 x CR120-4 and 1 x CRI20-8 pumps were selected to supply the main duty and act as the jockey pump. In addition Grundfos CUE variable frequency drives linked to a bus network, manage the operation of the pump station and ensure pumps are operating in an energy efficient way.
The pump station has been operational for a year now and has continued to respond to all the demands made of it, including those created by 2014 being one of the hottest summers in Scotland in recent years.
