Robotic innovations

21 March 2016

At MACH 2016 ABB will be showcasing developments in robotic automation, witha new generation of standardised arc welding cells.

Demonstrations will also include ABB’s laser welding technology combined with ABB’s innovative FlexInspect, a solution for automated in-line inspection, and YuMi a new dual-armed robot will make its debut.

ABB’s FlexArc is a new generation of standardised welding cells which are said to deliver maximum performance whilst making optimum use of available space. The basic options feature either a single robot or two robots with MultiMove, together with a choice of ABB positioners from an extensive range and a selection of welding equipment options to suit the customers’ needs.

Jointly developed by ABB and 3D imaging specialist nub3d, the FlexInspect is a new robotic automated inspection system capable of measuring a wide variety of components and finished products in 3D. This can be achieved without any contact whilst the robot handles them.

FlexInspect includes its own built-in adjustable lighting technology, providing optimum digitizing results regardless of production floor light conditions or vibrations.

Also featured on the stand will be ABB’s new YuMi dual-armed robot, a collaborative dual armed robot designed for a world in which humans and robots work together. With its extensive safety features allowing it to work alongside manual workers with no need for barriers, cages or zones, YuMi is said to offer a raft of benefits including increased productivity, flexibility and product quality. Another key feature of YuMi is its use of Lead Through Programming for simple tasks, enabling manufacturers to quickly and easily respond to changes in consumer demand. Stand 5771
