Functional safety services at the national synchrotron
21 August 2020
Control, safety and automation systems supplier Inspec Solutions has been appointed by Diamond Light Source to provide functional safety services across the UK’s national synchrotron facility’s operations.
Inspec Solutions says it was approached by the organisation to help it meet its demanding proof-test schedule and ensure effective, high-integrity, automatic safety systems to protect hazardous processes. Diamond is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world. Its technology accelerates electrons to near light speeds, so that they give off light 10 billion times brighter than the sun. This allows scientists to use the light to study a vast range of subject matter, from new medicines and treatments for disease to innovative engineering and cutting-edge technology.
Staff at the Oxfordshire facility will be able to focus on their core duties thanks to Inspec Solutions’ team, comprising certified TÜV functional safety engineers, as well as highly experienced offshore technicians. Inspec Solutions says it has more than 15 years of functional safety experience in many different industries, focusing on both continuous process and machinery installations.
It adds that it provides high-integrity, SIL-rated systems and can look after every stage of the safety lifecycle, from risk assessment/HAZOP/LOPA/SRS through to design, installation, validation and SIF proof-testing services.
