Making tests easier to perform correctly and efficiently

28 November 2022

"Since Metrel launched their Ring Continuity Adapter, I have heard the odd comment about dumbing down the industry," said Brendan Beaver, manager of Metrel UK. "Makers of testers are not dumbing down but trying to make tests easier to perform correctly and efficiently!"

"I hear no clamour to return to the day before Sydney Evershed when insulation resistance testing was difficult and hard work, or even to the turn of the 20th Century when it required an electrical engineer and a couple of assistance. Fortunately the test meter industry moved on, to not only insulation resistance testers, but multi-function testers too.

"Metrel's new Ring Continuity Adapter is another advance in this long line of technical improvements, taking the legwork out of testing ring final circuits," he continued.

"Having been nulled the adapter is connected to the out-going and in-coming, line, neutral and protective earth, and the multi-function tester which almost immediately  gives a measurement  of r1,r2 and rn.

"The adapter is then left at the board while measurements as taken around the ring, giving R1+R2 and R1+RN. The adapter makes the connections saving the electrician time walking back and forth and allowing him to use his expertise to interpret the results," Beaver concluded.
