Cutting cooling costs
14 December 2016
Evaporative cooling is a low energy alternative to refrigeration and is said to run on less than 10% of the energy. It uses the natural process of evaporation to cool air as part of a ventilation system rather than compressors or refrigerants. Its low capital and operating cost make it suitable for a variety of environments.

A leading retailer, for example, was experiencing temperatures of more than 40ᴼC during the summer months in its UK distribution centres, with staff describing the working conditions as unbearable. The high temperatures resulted in staff having to take frequent water breaks. A feasible cooling solution was required.
EcoCooling’s evaporative cooling and air handling solutions has provided the cooling required to maintain bearable temperatures for a cost effective installation – and at a sensible operating cost.
The EcoCooling system provided fresh air spot cooling to extreme areas while also gently cooling the rest of the centre. The new system has made the centre more comfortable, is costing the company less in water and break time and has provided a promising response from the health and safety committee.
Based on the success of the initial installation, this retailer has since commissioned EcoCooling systems for an additional four sites.
