Sweet success
24 March 2014
In partnership with GM Technical Services (GMTS), a South African crane fabricator, Street Crane has completed a major installation at Illovo Sugar’s new 51,000m2, 170,00t capacity, high-bay warehouse.

Each of the six warehouse bays houses a 16t SWL overhead crane. The 30.72m span double girder cranes, including control cabins, link beams, lifting beams, access walkways and bogies were built by GMTS in South Africa to structural drawings supplied by Street Crane.
Street supplied eight tonne (4+4 tonnes), VX hoists from the UK 12. Each of the custom built twin hoists was reeved on a single hoist drum to ensure synchronised hook movement. GMTS then synchronised the twin hoists on each crane using encoder feedback and inverter drives.
